Interview with author Lyra Mcken

Hey everyone! We have Lyra Mcken here for an interview today! Lyra is the author of a new release zombie novel titled Zombified!! I really enjoyed this book and it is perfect for teens and adults. You can read my review HERE and check out an excerpt HERE.

Cassie is a typical teenager. She’s crushing on a boy and trying to make it through high school. It’s a typical day of classes when all hell breaks loose. Forced to run and hide the situation just keeps getting worse. She makes a mistake and soon becomes infected. She meets others like her and together they sent out to find a cure. Is their fate already sealed? Can they find a cure before it’s too late? See what happens through the eyes of the infected when Cassie tells you how Zombies are people too.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I like the color pink, a lot; I work at the college I attended as an undergrad. I will be starting grad school in the spring. I live in the mountains, but hate being cold. I hate being hot too, so I am just hard to please. I have three tattoos. I’m in a Sorority. I am obsessed with working out, and have a love/hate relationship with cheese fries. I could tell you lots of other things, but you already know I like writing and I like the paranormal.

Your pseudonym is Lyra Mcken, what made you chose that name?

The name Lyra just came to me one day. I don't really know where from, I just liked it. McKen is a mixture of my boyfriend's first and last name.

This was my first time reading a zombie novel that was written from the characters POV before and after infection. What made you decide to write it this way?

I thought it would be cool to examine what is going on in someone's head as they know they will eventually be a zombie. I mean can you imagine? I tried to. I thought it would be awesome if they still had some form of consciousness after they turned, but humans couldn't understand them.

What inspired you to write Zombified?

For months every time my boyfriend or my dad would say something about the world going downhill I would say the Zombies were coming. It was really just a way to annoy them, because it really annoyed them. My dad would yell, "There is no such thing as Zombies." So I guess I had Zombies on the brain for some reason. I had been trying to get Kenny to watch Zombieland and he still refuses and I just decided I wanted to write what it would be like for a Zombie, and as a girl turning into one, and Cassie was born. :)

If you could choose a dream cast for Zombified, who would you pick?

This is an interesting question and one I had not thought about. I suppose it's my dream so I can pick anyone so here it goes.
Cassie - Lea Michele
Brett - Chris Hemsworth
Rose - Melissa McCarthy
Trent - Fred Ward Cage
Adrian Grenier

Do you have any other novels in the works?

I do! I am writing a novel about a Succubus. I am excited about the way it is going, and really hope it will be my second book released with Great Minds Think Aloud. Julie is not a Succubus in a have sex and kill men kind of way. I like for my paranormal stories to be suitable for ages thirteen and up.

Thank you so much for hosting me on your wonderful blog today!!
