Interview with Laura Hawks, author of Demons Kiss

Paranormal Romance

When her family was murdered, Clarissa found her life altered. As the new guardian for a very powerful gem that could change the very fate of the Earth and its inhabitants should it be lost, she willingly accepted the responsibilities to keep it safe.

A demon named Xon was after the abilities the gem would afford him should he get his hands on it.

Azamel protected the world from demon kind. A demon himself, he was appointed judge and if need be, executioner to protect the various races that roamed the Earth. Now he had to hunt Xon and prevent him from obtaining a stone that could give him the edge he would need to rule, but to do this Azamel would have to work with a young wolf who had a chip on her shoulder. Could he succeed in time to save both of them... before it was too late? Or would Clarissa's mistrust doom them all?
“How do you know so much about the stone? Only a small few know it is in more than one piece.” Her wet lashes caressed her cheeks as she blinked, her breath caught with his tenderness. Again she got lost in those baby blues.

Azamel mentally cursed himself for letting that slip. His mind scrambled as he tried to think of a suitable reply that would placate her and repair the fragile trust they had between them. Thinking that this was probably the stupidest thing he had ever done in his endlessly long life, he leaned forward and took her mouth in a hard kiss. The intention was to distract her from her train of thought. However, the moment their lips met, everything changed. Her soft sigh as he pressed his tongue against hers jolted his body and mind. Keeping his hands in her hair, he deepened the kiss feasting on her soft mouth with a hunger that burned through his entire being.

When did you begin writing?

A couple of years ago I began writing with an on line role playing game. I loved coming up with storyline ideas and I guess the rest just took off.

Have you ever been discouraged in regard to your writing ability and if so, how did you get past it and move forward?

Not really. I have been told I spend too much time on the computer, but when they realized that I was getting published, they could not have been prouder and the complaints stopped.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

Coming up with a story that others will enjoy reading and trying to make it intriguing and exciting.

What is something you've written that will never see the light of day?

Not sure I have anything I am totally ashamed of writing.

What is your writer food?

Believe it or not, I kind of forget to eat when I write. I do, however, live on Diet Rite.

What's the hardest thing about writing for you?

The initial idea.

What inspires you to write?

My friends.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

So far, I have written one book and a short story, but I have part two of the novel being worked on currently and I have one that is basically finished, just needs to be touched up. It is hard to say what is my favorite so far.. I guess the first because it got me published :D

What are some of your favorite books?

I love Graham Masterton’s The Manitou and The Djinn. I also love O’Henry’s short stories. Poe’s the Pit and the Pendulum is a classic and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dance with the Devil.

What authors do you like to read?

Graham Masterton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, O’Henry, Edgar Allen Poe, and Peter David.

What inspired you to write Demon's Kiss?

It is more of a who than a what that encouraged me to write Demon’s Kiss. There was a call for short stories with another publisher. When I sent it to be looked at by MHP they liked it as is but thought it would be better as a novel. I already had the idea for four or five short stories based on the first one, so I just put them all together but one. I am using the one I held back on as part of book two.

If you could choose a dream cast for insert title, who would you pick?
For Clarissa: Julianne Hough, for Azamel: Jensen Ackles and for Xon: Michael Chiklis.

Would you say you relate to any of your characters? If so, which one and why?
I relate a lot to Clarissa. We both tend to want the best for everyone, yet scared to get too close because we have been hurt so often. So we hold people at a distance. We both fight to overcome our demons of insecurity and in the process find happiness for ourselves.

About the Author

I have always been interested in writing in some form or other. A few years back, I was involved with and then ran a Star Trek Interactive Writing Group which was successful for a number of years. Yes, I am a trekker and proud of it.

Then a few years back, I got my Master's Degree in Ancient Civilizations, Native American History and United States History.

It was at this time I got involved in role playing on FaceBook, which gave me ample opportunities to grow and hone my writing ability.

A published friend encouraged me to write my own book, and the rest, as they say, is history.
