Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a wife and the mother of two children, ages 10 and 13. I love to read and write. I also sing professionally.

When did you begin writing?

I've written my whole life, but I began seriously pursuing a writing career about 8 years ago.

Have you ever been discouraged in regard to your writing ability and if so, how did you get past it and move forward?

Yes, in the early days of writing it took some time for me to find my "voice." I kept trying to emulate other authors. I joined critique groups and forums and attended conferences. I also spent a lot of time writing different genres until I found the one I most enjoyed.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

Creating the story. My favorite part of the process is writing the rough draft, when I can just let loose and write whatever I want without worrying about structure, flow, grammar, etc. I love creating a new world, and I love getting to know the characters. The most exciting thing to me is when I have a blank sheet of paper in front of me and I know I can take the story anywhere I want it to go.

What is something you've written that will never see the light of day?

My first three novels most likely. They are all chick-lit.

What is your writer food?

Anything I can eat quickly. I don't like to stop writing to eat when I'm really in the writing zone. But I will say that I drink tons of coffee while writing.

What's the hardest thing about writing for you?

Editing. It's not my favorite part of the process. Thank goodness I have amazing editors to help me.

What inspires you to write?

Stories and characters just call to me. I don't have a choice. :)

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I have written 8 novels. I think my favorite is my newest one, Dazzle. But then again, usuallly my current book is my favorite.

What are some of your favorite books?

Lately I've been completely obsessed with the Mortal Instruments Series and Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare. I really enjoyed Divergent by Veronica Roth as well. I will admit that I was one of those people who loved Twilight and that's when I started reading Young Adult books.

What authors do you like to read?

The ones I just mentioned. I read a lot of different authors from all different genres. My favorite author of all time is Alice Hoffman.

What inspired you to write Prowl?

I wanted to write a Christian teen book that was similar to the other popular teen books out there but that had a message of hope and truth.

If you could choose a dream cast for Prowl, who would you pick?

Meaghan Martin for Kenzie
Taylor Lautner for Isaac
Freddie Stroma for Tanner

Would you say you relate to any of your characters?

If so, which one and why? Kenzie is a lot like I was in high school. Very unsure of herself and always looking for acceptance.
